Dinner date? Drinks with the girls? Lunch with the parents? Baby-shower? Just generally running late and need a put together outfit that takes little thought and looks great?
It's no secret that the silky slip skirt has been about for a while: all of our favourite influencers have been wearing them, and pretty much every high street brand has brought out their version of them. In fact, I'm surprised that I took so long to jump on the bandwagon with these, but the truth is I'm not the tallest girl, and would these so-called midi skirts just drown me? Yet trying to find a skirt that would suit my body AND wasn't super long AND was affordable turned out to be easier than expected, and I managed to find mine in Glassons. Glassons, for those of you in the UK or the States, is an Australian brand, and might be compared to Forever 21 or H&M.
Anyway, I managed to find the midi-skirt that dreams are made of and I'm now a convert. For us shorter girls, midi skirts tend to be a little bit on the longer side but that worked out well with this one thanks to the slightly fluted/mermaid shape of it: flattering on ALL body types, and gives the illusion of curves.
I went for a black version just because it fits into my wardrobe the most: it's super versatile and I'll be able to wear it with pretty much anything. The best thing about a black silky skirt like this is that it's easy to dress both up and down, which is why it works for so many occasions. Throw on a pair of heels and you've got yourself a 'I didn't try to hard but still look great' date night outfit, throw on some trainers and you're ready for a day of walking around the city (or like in my case, dog walking).
The new 'jeans and a classic white tee', I threw on a white boxy t-shirt to go with my midi skirt. I think it's a classic and minimal look, and keeps the outfit both smart-casual and comfy. I decided to knot my t-shirt in the middle to give a bit more shape: a personal thing, but I find showing a bit of mid-riff can be pretty flattering, and made sure I was drowned in too much material. I'd say that you can never go wrong with a clean white t-shirt and put together, the t-shirt/midi combo is one that works all day, everyday.
Of course, I threw on some gold jewellery to finish it off. I think I tend to prefer gold jewellery to silver at the moment so these hoops and necklaces I got from NastyGal were perfect minimal accessories to finish off my look. Again, I think I'm preferring minimalistic accessories at the moment, but statement pieces like earrings would look just as good with this outfit!
Anyway, here's to more regular blogposts I hope. Let me know what you thought in the comments section below- I'd be really keen to hear of your own versions of the outfit and your thoughts on the midiskirt!
