Guide 101: Loud Legs

December 2, 2017

So firstly, I'll be starting a new series called 'Guide 101', which just gives you guys tips and tricks for how to optimise different styles and trends; sort of like the 'What to Wear' series, but this time more of a guide! Let me know what you think, and whether you'd want more like this or not! (Also keep posted because HOPEFULLY a new 'What to Wear' for different Christmas parties will be out soon!). Anyway, onto the post!

Okay all, if there is ONE trend I’d say you should go for if you want to push out the boat, it’s got to be the loud leg trend.

So what is the loud leg trend? It’s essentially going for textures and fits of trouser that aren’t your everyday pair of jeans or culottes. Some of the styles I sway towards when thinking about this trend are vinyl trousers, flared trousers and velvet trousers.

I decided to style up a pair of vinyl trousers. Now, as vinyl is definitely one of the louder trends, I decided to go for a black pair as it’s a tone that goes with everything and that I knew wouldn’t stand out as much as a red pair would. Going for a more muted colour in a daring material would definitely be something I’d recommend if you’re wanting to try out this trend but you’re not ready to stand out too much in a crowd.

There are so many different fits of vinyl trouser flying around at the moment, but I went for some really tight fitting ones, mainly because I’m still searching for a baggier pair that actually fit me well- if anyone has any straight leg vinyl trouser recommendations, please do leave a comment about them down below!

If very smooth patent, high-shine isn't your thing, look out for 'crackled' options. I've linked some below, and these still hit that loud leg trend without being as daring or latex-like as a tighter fitting pair.

I decided to pair up my vinyl trousers with a pair of ankle fitting boots to keep the look streamlined and fitted. Sock boots would work really well for this but again, I’m still on the hunt for some! If you wanted a less chic and more sporty look, swap out the boots for trainers, or alternatively for a more edgy-rock inspired look, pop on some embellished biker boots.

I wanted my upper half to be quite casual to contrast the flashier trousers, so decided to go for a sweatshirt. I layered it over a black polo neck as it takes the look from being more casual to slightly more put together within seconds. Personally, I’d normally stick to a neutral coloured turtle-neck when doing this as I prefer a more chic look, but if you want something more fun, go for a bright or pastel colour! Of course, the other bonus is layering keeps you super toasty during the winter and what’s not to love about that?!

The colour of this sweatshirt is e v e r y t h i n g too! Whilst it may not be a trend colour per-say, I really think burnt orange is one of those colours that will always work well in the autumn and winter, and definitely a colour I can't get enough of.

To finish off, I tucked in my sweatshirt at the front. I think I stress about tucking in pretty much every blogpost, but it honestly makes the biggest difference to an outfit, and really helps to make an outfit less casual even when you're wearing what should in theory, be very casual indeed- a baggy sweatshirt is a prime example.

I think vinyl is one of those trends that won't be going away too quickly. It's a loud leg trend that works all year round- why not try it with a white-shirt in summer (or for those in Australia who are in summer right now, that's your option!), or during warmer winter days with an oversized white shirt? Whilst I was a little apprehensive about wearing them at first, I definitely think it's just one of those statement pieces you have to own and be confident in: sure, they're not everyone's cup of tea, but why should that matter! I actually got asked quite a few times about them, and that's exactly what statement pieces and statement trends are all about!
